Disqus Comment Management

I have flip flopped my opinion on The Disqus plug-in since installing it on this blog. I have finally come to the conclusion that it is a positive add on for blogger’s.

I came to this conclusion this morning while checking the stats of this blog. While checking backlinks, I found that there were quite a few from Disqus. Now these links don’t have much link juice, but I’m sure it helped get this blog out of the sandbox with the last PR update.

While I don’t have many readers yet, leaving many comments, I have already noticed some traffic coming from Disqus.

Both of these positives easily outweigh my concerns of losing unique content by allowing my comments to be hosted off-site. Also, there have been discussions of a blogger not owning the comments by allowing them to be hosted on Disqus. That is not true. While there isn’t an easy way right now to import the comments back into your blog, the fact remains that you can do it.

Disqus Benefits

  • easy link building
  • easy for users to subscribe to threads they have commented on
  • easy for the blogger to manage/moderate comments across multiple blogs
  • blogger can reply to comments via email
  • helps keep spam off site
  • enable users to leave video comments with Seesmic

I honestly feel that Disqus is by far the easiest way to manage comments on your blog.

  1. Hi, Just thought I’d let you know your website is rendering funny in my K-melleon browser. Looks good from what I can see however.
